Rurban Exemplar Centre for Sports and Development

Recognising the ability of educational programs to produce meaningful change in disadvantaged communities requires many years of persistence. Tanjun ( has subsequently developed a Rurban Exemplar Centre at one of the most enthusiastic participating schools, the Paradise Academy, a co-educational institution located in a remote area of Haridwar district catering to children from poor families of the farming community.

This first of its kind centre was formally launched on 5 September 2019, this day being celebrated in India as the “Teachers’ Day”. This centre will operate with the objective of providing equal opportunities for children to develop themselves in sports as much as in other academic fields.

A variety of sports, including popular indigenous games, will be incorporated through a Happiness Corner, a Knowledge Corner, a Technology Corner and an Innovation Corner, with each of these focused on sport but designed to bloom into a multi-faceted educational exercise that can produce skills applicable to other domains. Specialists, interns and volunteers will be continually brought in to help develop the centre and provide students with educational and career counselling. Training courses will be offered to enable upskilling of teachers from nearby schools.
