About Rekha Dey

Rekha Dey is a ‘Sport for Development’ Specialist with over 18 years of experience working with different national and international organizations. She was a part of the six member drafting committee for youth affairs and sports set up by the Planning Commission, Government of India, in 2012 for the twelve five year plan. She is former India Coordinator of Australian sports Outreach Program, Australian Sports Commission, Government of Australia; former India Director, Sports Education Development Australia in addition to her experience of having worked with Chambers of Commerce and the media including Hindustan Times. She designed and implemented an innovative sport for development program using ‘Modified Boxing’ in the state of Uttarakhand in collaboration with University of Canberra and Boxing Australia, a program supported by the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, Government of Australia under their Asian Sports Partnerships Program. As an outcome of this program, she ideated, launched and currently manages the Exemplar Centre for Sport and Development in a school located in the rural hinterland of Haridwar district of Uttarakhand state. Being an entrepreneur since 2015, she has set up three social enterprises. She is currently a part of the Expert Reference Group for the development of a Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) on sport, development and building peaceful and inclusive societies. The MOOC is a collaboration between the International Platform on Sport and Development (sportanddev), the Commonwealth Secretariat and the Australian Government. She is also conducting an independent research on indigenous sports of India, a compilation of state wise traditional games and sports that have been of interest and passion for our Aadi Bharatiya people. Rekha is an Economics Graduate with Honours from St. Xavier’s College, Ranchi and holds PG Diploma in Marketing Management, Institute of Marketing and Management, New Delhi and PG Diploma in International Business from The Indian Institute of Foreign Trade (IIFT), New Delhi.
